Medi-Cal offers unconventional experiments to control asthma

Medi-Cal, the Medicaid program of California, is offering ambitious, unconventional experiments to control asthma including removing mold, installing air purifiers and even replacing carpeting, blinds and mattresses. The initiative is reportedly part of  Gov. Gavin Newsom’s sweeping $6 billion initiative to transform the largest Medicaid program in the country. The residents of the state have commented as to how asthma exacerbations happen with air pollution and indoor threats like harsh cleaning products, cockroach infestations, dust and mold. They also expressed hopes that the new program might be able to concretely help control their disease, as these issues hit the low-income population the hardest.
