
Mental health at the nexus of chronic pain and disease: a Cochrane study
Chronic pain is closely linked to mental health in complex ways. Pain can disrupt sleep and mood, raising the risk of depression and anxiety. At the same time, psychological conditions tend to intensify the experience of pain. This suggests that healthcare needs to adopt a holistic approach, addressing both physical and mental aspects of a patient’s condition. An integrated care model that considers the bi-directional relationship between pain and mental health may be most effective.
