Mortality risk same for patients with COPD and CVD or with just one

Patients with both heart disease and COPD have no difference in death rate as compared to patients with just one condition, observed a recent study by Dr Audrey Borghi-Silva and team at the Federal University of São Carlos in Brazil. The study, published in Scientific Reports, analysed more than 300 patients who were between the ages of 40 and 85 who had been diagnosed with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and/or COPD. Out of the 124 patients included, 46 had heart failure, 53 had COPD, and 25 had both, and they underwent advanced pulmonary function tests, echocardiography, body composition analysis assessments, and symptom-limited incremental cardiopulmonary exercise testing using a cycle ergometer.
