Nanotechnology for pulmonary drug delivery in COPD and lung patients
Scientists from Wenzhou Medical University in China found the relevance of using nanotechnology to deliver pulmonary drugs in COPD and lung patients. Pulmonary drugs are often ingested by inhaling them, reducing side effects and initiating rapid action on the lungs.
The researchers pointed out that delivering pulmonary drugs faces challenges such as in vivo instability, poor solubility, and absorption of the drugs. However, nanotechnology based drug delivery can overcome these challenges by precise targeting of the delivery location and dosage.
The researchers studied liposomes, polymeric micelles, dendrimers, and other nanoparticles used to deliver drugs to targeted sites in the body and found that the efficacy was improved with the advent of nanotechnology.
