New study finds link between obesity and ovarian cancer

A new study published in the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology has found a significant link between obesity and an increased risk of ovarian cancer. The study examined over 80,000 women who underwent hysterectomies between 2006 and 2016 and found that those with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher were 33% more likely to develop the cancer than those with a BMI below 23. The study also found that women who had previously been diagnosed with obesity-related conditions, such as hypertension and diabetes, were at an even higher risk of developing the cancer. The study’s authors suggest that obesity may increase ovarian cancer risk by increasing inflammation, estrogen levels, and insulin resistance. This study highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy weight and managing obesity-related conditions for reducing the risk of ovarian cancer.
