NSAID use and exercising combined can cause anaphylaxis: study

Use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) combined with heavy exercise could cause anaphylaxis in some individuals, a condition where there is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. A medically challenging case report and following study findings presented at the latest American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Annual Scientific Meeting, said that the adverse reactions of combining exercise and NSAIDs medication could be due to the drugs inducing IgE-mediated allergic responses and promote mast cell degranulation of histamine, which exercise is also prone to create. The researchers also presented individual case studies and pointed out the importance of spreading awareness regarding this issue and on how to manage the anaphylactic symptoms.
