India’s single-day Covid-19 spike touches 33,750; Omicron tally at 1700

India reported 33,750 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, an increase of 6,247 cases from Saturday’s toll of 27,553. The Omicron tally as on Sunday night is at 1,700, of which 639 have recovered or been discharged, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. Maharashtra is the worst affected by infections of the new variant as its total cases mounted to 510,  followed by Delhi with 351 cases. With the number of SARS CoV-2 infections rising across the country,  containment zones have been seen increasing and the state governments have considered new restrictions. Major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai continued witnessing higher incidents as Mumbai recorded 8,063 new Covid-19 cases, while Delhi saw 3,194 cases. Kolkata also registered 3,194 new cases on Sunday.
