Study finds that pediatric patients and caretakers prefer telehealth for asthma care

Pediatric and young adult patients and caretakers of asthma care were found often preferring telehealth over offline clinical setting due to the convenience of the medium used. A recent study conducted by Rory Kamerman-Kretzmer, a pediatric pulmonologist at UC Davis, and colleagues, found that young patients and caretakers of asthma care would like to choose telehealth as it eliminates traveling time and cost. The research team said that they analysed 502 patients to find that at least 207 patients had one telehealth visit. While stressing on the importance of expansion of telehealth, the researchers however pointed out that utilising in-person care along with telehealth would prove to be more effective than solely depending on one of them. Among the benefits noted for using telehealth, was the reduction in travelling costs and protection from the COVID-29 pandemic in the current time.
