Chronic rhinosinusitis has a substantial impact on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in COPD patients and it needs to be recognised as a serious comorbidity of the disease, suggests a Norwegian study, published in journal Respiratory Medicine. 

“We found that concomitant rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (RSsNP) in COPD was associated with more psychological issues, higher COPD symptom burden, and overall COPD-related HRQoL after adjusting for lung function,” said lead author Marte Rystad Øie from Trondheim University Hospital, Norway, in the report. 

 “RSsNP does have clinical relevance and [our findings] support previous studies that have suggested that rhinosinusitis should be recognized as a comorbidity in COPD,” she emphasised.
