
RSV-Associated Hospitalizations Among Adults in Europe: Study Results and Country-Specific Rates
A recent study estimated the number of RSV-associated hospitalizations among adults in Europe. The researchers used data from six countries and extrapolated the estimated number to a total of 28 countries in the European Union. They found that the estimated mean number of annual hospitalizations for RSV infection was 158,229 among adults and nearly all adult hospitalizations occurred among those aged 65 years and older. The UK had the highest annual mean number of RSV-associated hospitalization for adults aged 18 to 64 years and adults aged 85 years and older, while Malta had the lowest overall rate of RSV-associated hospitalizations across all age groups.
