Safe mask breaks for asthmatic patients
Amid rising evidence of discomforts experienced by asthmatic patients on wearing masks, medical experts in India stressed on the need for masks of the right fit and taking safe mask breaks to help them. The most commonly reported discomforts include difficulty in breathing, headaches and other general inconveniences. Doctors expressed concerns regarding these difficulties faced by patients, especially those who have not been taking proper medications and thus have uncontrollable asthma exacerbations. Affirming the need for continuing mask-wearing, preferably N95 or double masking, the experts said that it benefits patients with upper airway allergies triggered by smog, dust particles and other pollutants, despite the discomfort caused.
