The health arm of Sefton council, the governing body for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in the historic county of Lancashire, North England, released an online checklist on managing asthma through the winter season. Dr Pete Chamberlain, local GP and chair of NHS South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), pointed out that the cold and damp weather along with snow and high winds could aggravate existing health problems, making COPD patients more vulnerable to exacerbations during the winter season. The team behind the initiative added that the checklist highlights local advice and support from across the health and VCF sectors’ that may be useful to them.
