India reported 13,154 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a much higher single-day spike as compared to the last one week. Maharashtra was among several states which reported a sharp spike with more than 3,000 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, followed by Delhi (923). In fact, Delhi marked a steep rise from the 496 detected the previous day. The sudden spike in fresh cases has also raised the case-positivity rate in the country to 1.29 percent, which was less than 1 percent till Tuesday. Among the cities, Mumbai registered a huge spike, recording 2,510 cases. Moreover, 400 infections were detected in Bengaluru, 540 in Kolkata and 294 in Chennai on Wednesday.
