Study: Children with vitamin D deficiency have neurological, physical problems linked to deficiency

This study investigated the clinical and laboratory findings of children who had symptoms that could be connected to vitamin D insufficiency or low vitamin D levels. The study included 822 children aged 1 to 18 with vitamin D levels less than 30 g/mL. Over 45% of the cases were between the ages of 5 and 14. Approximately 14.6% had mobility problems, and 52.6% had neurological symptoms. The most prevalent mobility abnormalities were difficulty with balance and limb shaking, while the most common neurological findings were vertigo, headaches, and epileptic seizures. Calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium levels were decreased in patients with severe vitamin D deficiency ( 12 g/mL). The incidence of mobility problems and neurological abnormalities varied according to age, gender, and vitamin.
