Study: Radiation predicts endometrial cancer outcomes after 5 years of no radiation

The study examined how molecular endometrial cancer categorization can predict radiation responses in early-stage endometrioid endometrial cancer. The researchers examined data from two studies, including 880 individuals. They discovered that patients with POLEmut endometrial cancer had no locoregional recurrences after 5 years of no radiation, indicating that avoiding radiotherapy is safe for this population. Radiation had modest benefits for patients with MMRd endometrial cancer, with similar results for external-beam radiation, vaginal brachytherapy, or no adjuvant treatment. For individuals with p53 abnormalities, external-beam radiation performed much better than vaginal brachytherapy or no treatment. Meanwhile, for individuals with no unique molecular profile, vaginal brachytherapy was as effective as external-beam radiation in reducing locoregional malignancies, and both were better than no adjuvant treatment.
