Study Reveals High CAC Score Equals CV Event Risk Similar to Established ASCVD
A study published in the Journal of Cardiology suggests that individuals with a high coronary artery calcium (CAC) score face a comparable risk of cardiovascular events to those with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
The research, conducted over 15 years, tracked a large cohort without ASCVD. Findings revealed that individuals with a CAC score above 100 had a significantly higher likelihood of experiencing cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes.
These results emphasize the potential of CAC scoring as a non-invasive tool for identifying high-risk individuals. Early detection through CAC scoring could lead to proactive interventions, reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease and improving patient outcomes.
Regular cardiovascular risk assessments, particularly in those with a high CAC score, are crucial for personalized treatment strategies and timely interventions, minimizing the occurrence of life-threatening events.
