Sudden spurt in COPD, asthma cases after relaxing mask mandate

Various cities in India, especially in Northeastern states, such as Kolkata, Dispur among others, have reported a sudden rise in respiratory diseases, including asthma and COPD, when the governments lifted the mask mandate. Hospitals in these cities have reported increased cases of asthma, COPD admissions and emergency visits in hospitals as the mask used to act as a shield against their allergies to pollen, dust, air pollution etc. Asthma and COPD exacerbations were less by 10 percent during the pandemic. However, the hospitals have already seen at least 20 to 22 percent rise in respiratory disease in these cities post the relaxation of Covid restrictions.
