Tiny proportion of current trials for COVID – yet there are urgent need for effective therapies

There is an urgent need for effective therapies for extended COVID, yet only a tiny proportion of current clinical trials are exploring prospective pharmacological approaches. The majority of clinical trials include follow-up studies, rehabilitation, alternative therapy, and supplements. While they may be helpful, there are no proven pharmacological therapies that target the underlying disease processes. Despite the fact that one in every ten COVID patients develops protracted COVID with devastating symptoms, there are only 12 interventional drug studies. Uncertainty in diagnosis, a lack of biomarkers, specialized silos, stigma against afflicted groups, historical neglect of postviral diseases, and corporate apathy are all causes for the lack of studies. Furthermore, despite proof of pathology, some healthcare experts continue to see lengthy COVID as a psychiatric disorder. Clinicians who are empathetic to patients still exist.
