Toxic air in London hospitalised over 1700 people in just 3 years

Toxic air in London city caused more than 1700 hospitalizations for asthma and other serious lung conditions in just 3 years, found an Imperial College study.  A research team observed that between 2017 and 2019 these many people were hospitalised only due to air pollution related lung diseases, though the picture has improved from more than 4,000 admissions between 2014 and 2016. The research, funded by the Greater London Authority, also pointed out that the 2017-2019 data works out to three people  admitted to hospital every two days due to polluted air. The study also found that out of these, 700 were children taken to hospital due to asthma worsened by air pollution. Dr Heather Walton, a senior author of the report, stressed on the need for government policies and interventions to reduce these numbers further and reduce other health impacts of air pollution.
