Study finds that undetected thromboembolism leads to increased mortality in COPD patients
Undetected and untreated thromboembolism has been found to be a growing cause of mortality in COPD patients. A study conducted by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Romania, revealed that COPD morbidities are constantly growing due to undetected and untreated thromboembolism, a clot in the blood vessel obstructing blood flow. The researchers suggested that therapy with low weight heparins injectable anticoagulants could help reduce thromboembolic risk along with improving the respiratory function parameters. In addition, the researchers said that the study revealed that a significant proportion of thromboembolism cases could be detected through autopsy, which need to be recommended in the COPD treatment protocol.
