Unraveling the Mysteries of Endometriosis: Advancements in Diagnosis and Treatment

Endometriosis, a disease affecting up to 10% of women, remains a mystery despite years of treatment with surgery and hormonal therapies. Specialists believe that advancements in genetic understanding and the integration of artificial intelligence may provide new options for patients. This condition occurs when endometrial tissue grows outside the uterus, causing pain, discomfort during intercourse, and infertility. Previously, doctors and women alike dismissed period pain as normal, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment. However, attitudes have shifted, with women demanding answers and proper treatment. Currently, there are no tests available for early detection of the disease, but a saliva diagnostic test in France shows promise. Furthermore, the perception of endometriosis has changed from being solely a gynecologic disease to having a systemic inflammatory component. This paradigm shift is expected to influence the future treatment of endometriosis.
