Updated Guidelines for the Management of Atopic Dermatitis: Key Recommendations and Therapies
The American Academy of Dermatology has updated its recommendations for treating atopic dermatitis using topical medications in response to new information. Topical medicines continue to be the predominant therapeutic choice despite advances in systemic therapy because of its efficacy and safety, which have been established. A multidisciplinary working group has created 12 important recommendations for the therapy of atopic dermatitis in adults based on an extensive analysis of data from randomized clinical trials. Corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors, Janus kinase inhibitors, phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitors, antimicrobials, and antihistamines are only a few of the non-prescription and prescription topical medications included in the guidelines. Although particular product recommendations are limited due to scant data, the usage of moisturizers is strongly advised as a nonprescription treatment. Bathing and wet dressings are only sometimes advised.Tacrolimus cream for topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs).
