US reports Covid-19 cases in 5.8 lakh children in a week

The US registered a sudden spike of Covid-19 infection in children with the total number touching at least 580,000 for the week ending January 6, a 78 percent increase from the week before. According to medical experts, this necessarily demonstrates that the highly contagious omicron variant is not sparing even children, who are believed to have higher natural immunity to resist the virus as compared to adults.

Since the start of the pandemic, nearly 8.5 million US children have tested positive for COVID-19. Of this, nearly 11 percent of those cases have occurred in the past two weeks, according to the report that uses state-by-state data. The total tally of Covid-19 cases among children in the US was 3,25,000 two weeks ago.
