Vaccine advances are being made in the fight against diseases like malaria and dengue
This year witnessed several advances in the realm of vaccinations. Several vaccine candidates have begun clinical testing, including a universal flu vaccine in a phase 1 study and a TB vaccine in a phase 3 trial. The first malaria vaccine has been approved, and over the following three years, 18 million doses will be delivered throughout Africa. Some vaccination studies, however, had difficulties, such as Takeda withdrawing their application for a dengue vaccine. Meanwhile, Pfizer’s RSV vaccine for older people, a 20-valent pneumococcal vaccination for children, and altering COVID-19 vaccines to target the newer XBB type have all been licensed or recommended. A single dose of the Jynneos mumps vaccine was also proven to be efficacious in studies.
