Australian study finds that Vitamin D deficiency can increase the risk of CVD

Vitamin D deficiency can increase blood pressure and the risk of Cardiovascular diseases (CVD), confirms a new study conducted in Australia. The research by Prof Elina Hypponen and team from the Australian Centre for Precision Health, found that individuals with serum 25(OH)D at 25 nmol/l had 11 percent higher risk of CVD than those with concentrations of 50 nmol/l. The study, published in  European Heart Journal, explained that the researchers analysed participants from 22 assessment centers across the UK, who were divided into groups with and without CVD diagnosis and their Vitamin D concentration measured. Medical experts have commended the study by pointing out how it is worthwhile to check vitamin D levels too along with several other health conditions, age, family history, diet, and lifestyle, in order to assess cardiovascular risk and supplement the vitamin for those who need it.
