Vitamin D levels can boost melanoma patient survival after immunotherapy: study
A new study discovered that maintaining normal vitamin D levels can enhance treatment results for melanoma patients receiving anti-PD-1 immunotherapy. The 200 research participants who received the immunotherapy treatment had a better response rate and lived longer without the illness deteriorating when compared to those with low levels. Participants with normal levels had a 56% response rate, a progression-free survival rate of 11.25 months, and an overall survival rate of 31.5 months. Those with low levels, on the other hand, had a 36.2% response rate, 5.75 months of progression-free survival, and a 27-month overall survival. For patients getting this immunotherapy treatment, the researchers recommend evaluating vitamin D levels and supplementing to bring them back to normal. Vitamin D3 pills are likely to be the most effective at increasing vitamin D levels.
