WHO launches Intersectoral Global Action Plan (IGAP) on neurological illnesses
The World Health Organization (WHO) has released an Intersectoral Global Action Plan (IGAP) on epilepsy and other neurological illnesses in order to increase patients’ access to care and treatment. The major cause of disability-adjusted life years and the second largest cause of mortality worldwide are neurological illnesses. Despite their great incidence, neurological disorders remain underserved, particularly in low- and middle-income nations. The IGAP seeks to address this issue with a comprehensive, cross-sector solution. Stigma and prejudice associated with neurological illnesses add to the burden on individuals, limiting access to care and increasing the likelihood of poverty. The Director-General of WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, underscores the significance of an integrated and comprehensive response to these problems.
