Wildfire smoke causes lung diseases even in healthy people
Wildfire smoke puts even healthy people at risk of developing lung diseases, suggests a recent study. The study led by Angela Haczku, professor of medicine and respiratory immunologist at UC Davis Health, pointed out that significant and concerning pathological changes happen in the lungs and immune system when exposed to wildfire smoke which could lead to serious lung diseases even in healthy people. Dr Haczku wrote in the research paper that the repeated exposure to wildfire smoke can lead to disease development, including asthma and COPD, even in the absence of hospital visits or concerning symptoms.
