About This Course

To assist the participants in applying the knowledge of Oculoplasty & ocular oncology into clinical practice.

Objective of the course: To acquire the specific knowledge, processes, skills and competencies required for the diagnosis and treatment of Oculoplasty and orbital conditions.

The learning outcomes and performance criteria serve as a guide to help the trainee attain the knowledge and skills to formulate treatment plans that balance outcomes for vision, function, appearance and life in cases of trauma or disease.

Dr. Milind N Naik
Consultant Ophthalmologist; Adjunct Prof. of Ophthalmology; University of Rochester, New York

Dr. Milind Naik completed his postgraduate training in Ophthalmology at Christian Medical College, Vellore and joined L V Prasad Eye Institute in 2001.He underwent Ophthalmic and Facial Plastic Surgery fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. He has 18 years of experience in eye plastic surgeries, and his area of expertise includes Thyroid Eye Disease, Cosmetic eyelid and facial surgery, and Reconstructive eyelid surgery. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, and lectures extensively across the globe.

Dr. Nandini Bothra
Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dr. Nandini Bothra completed her post graduate training in Ophthalmology from Mangalore and further pursued her fellowship in Ophthalmic plastic surgery and Ocular oncology from L V Prasad Eye Institute. Nandini is a clinician scientist who has several publications to her credit in peer reviewed journals. She has made various national presentations, conducted workshops, and is actively involved in teaching and training activities. Her special area of interest is Ophthalmic plastic surgery and Dacryology.

Dr. Swathi Kaliki
HOD of Ophthalmic Plastic & Facial Aesthetic Surgery, Orbit & Ocular Oncology Head, OEU Institute for Eye Cancer

Dr. Swathi Kaliki is an internationally recognized Ocular Oncologist. She is also the recipient of many prestigious awards including the AAO achievement, ICMR-Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize, APAO achievement, and IAPB Vision Excellence. She’s served as a mentor for retinoblastoma activities in Nairobi under the grant received from Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. 'Whitathon', an annual running event that raises awareness and fund to support about retinoblastoma to support the treatment of children from financially distressed families. Dr. Kaliki has extensively contributed to research in the field of ocular oncology. Description of nodulo-ulcerative ocular surface squamous neoplasia is one such contribution. She currently is the section editor in ocular oncology for 3 international journals and a reviewer for over 20 prime journals. Dr. Swathi Kaliki has to her credit 212 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has delivered 256 conference lectures, including 3 keynote addresses. She has conducted 17 instruction courses and has been honoured by 16 national and international awards.

Dr. Swati Singh
Assistant ophthalmologist

Dr. Swati Singh, she manages and treats patients with dry eye disease, ocular surface diseases like Stevens-Johnson syndrome and patients requiring eyelid surgeries. Her current focus of interest is improving tear production in patients with dry eye disease. She was the first to demonstrate the in-vivo transcanalicular view of the valve of Rosenmüller, tear secretion from transplanted minor salivary glands, and innovative clinical techniques for the evaluation of the lacrimal gland and salivary secretion in patients with dry eyes. She was recognized as one of the best talents in India for her innovation in dry eye diagnostics. She was an active researcher in molecular anatomy at Prof. Paulsen’s lab at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Nuremberg in 2019, where she described for the first time ‘immunopathological changes in the lacrimal glands of Steven-Johnson syndrome.’ She has to her credit 102 publications at the time of this writing and has delivered 50 conference lectures. She conducted 6 instruction courses, 4 live-surgical workshops and has been honoured by 9 awards.

Dr. Tarjani Vivek Dave
Associate Director, Kallam Anji Reddy Campus, Consultant Ophthalmologist - Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Service.

Dr. Tarjani Dave did her specialized training in orbital disease and oculofacial surgery at the L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. Dr. Dave practised in Mumbai for a couple of years before finally joining LVPEI as a full-time consultant. At LVPEI, she also heads the Ocularistry laboratory that has brought in many innovations to India, like the orbital tissue expander for congenital anophthalmia, osseo-integrated exenteration prosthesis, and 3D printed customized implants for management of orbitofacial fractures and migrated orbital implants. She also has a specific interest in the physiology of ptosis, eyelid malpositions and cosmetic oculo-facial surgery. An accomplished academician, Dr Dave has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. She is a passionate teacher and lectures widely at the regional, national and international levels on a range of topics related to orbital, facial and socket surgery. Her research interest mirrors her clinical focus and relates to orbital diseases, particularly- thyroid eye disease, orbital vascular malformations and management of orbital fractures and anophthalmia. She intersects several academic disciplines and maintains collaborative interdisciplinary relationships with reputed scientists on projects relating to imaging, histopathology of peri-implant capsules, big data and artificial intelligence. She is the recipient of the AIOS best poster award 2011 and 2018, the AIOS best paper award in Oculoplasty in 2018 and 2019 and an international best paper award for imaging in thyroid eye disease in the year 2020.

Dr. Devjyoti Tripathy
Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dr. Devjyoti Tripathy completed a long-term fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery, Orbit and Ocular Oncology from the Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. This was followed by a clinical fellowship in ophthalmic plastic surgery, aesthetics and orbit at the Goldschleger Eye Institute, Sheba Medical Center, Tel Aviv, Israel and a clinical observer ship at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California, Los Angeles, USA. He has also been awarded the John N Kapoor travelling fellowship by the Indo-American Cancer Association and the John and Editha Kapoor Charitable Foundation for oncologic ophthalmic plastic surgery and orbital oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA. His areas of interest are retinoblastoma, eyelid and orbital tumours, and reconstructions. He takes a keen interest in teaching and is the co-ordinator for the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) Ophthalmology residency program at the MTC campus.

Dr. Samir Mohapatra
Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dr. Samir Mohapatra completed his primary medical education from SCB Medical College, Cuttack and Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology from VSS Medical College, Burla. He joined L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad as a comprehensive ophthalmology fellow. After completing his fellowship, he joined LVPEI, Visakhapatnam as a consultant in Oculoplasty services. Subsequently, he relocated to LVPEI, Bhubaneswar. Dr Mohapatra has done a short observership in Orbito-Facial Reconstruction at The Queens Victoria Hospital, East Greensted in the UK under the mentorship of Dr Raman Malhotra. His areas of interest are Orbital trauma and fractures, Orbito-Maxillo-Facial reconstructions, Orbital tumours and Lacrimal Disorders. His initiative of starting the Orbito-Maxillo-Facial unit at the LVPEI, Bhubaneswar has helped provide quality services to the patients with Orbit and facial trauma.

Dr. Suryasnata Rath
Network Director, Operations In-charge, Elderly Eye Care and Home Care Services Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dr. Rath is an ophthalmic plastic surgeon by training and heads this service at LVPEI’s Mithu Tulsi Chanrai Campus at Bhubaneswar. His training experience with Peter Dolman in Oculoplastics at the University of British Columbia, Canada, helped him build a comprehensive thyroid clinic at the Bhubaneswar Campus. He is on the executive board of the Asia Pacific chapter of International Thyroid Eye Disease Society and the editor of a textbook titled ‘Surgery in Thyroid Eye Disease: A Conceptual Approach’ that was recently published by Springer. Dr. Rath has authored 58 indexed publications in peer reviewed journals and 5 book chapters till date. As a principal investigator, he has studied the role of infections in the etiopathogenesis of ocular adnexal lymphoma, funded by the Department of Biotechnology. He also delved into the realm of innovation after receiving the BIRAC BIG grant, to develop a device facilitating minimally invasive surgery in chronic dacryocystitis.

Dr. Anasua Ganguly Kapoor
Head, Kode Venkatadri Chowdary Campus Consultant Ophthalmologist, Hima Bindu Yalamanchili Centre for Eye Cancer.

Dr. Anasua Ganguly Kapoor is currently the Head of Kode Venkatadri Chowdary Campus. She has completed her basic medical education from Nilratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata, West Bengal in 2009 with several scholarships, certificate of honour and gold medal in surgery. She completed her postgraduate residency training in Ophthalmology from All India Institute for Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 2013, followed by a two year fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery, Orbit, Ocular Oncology and Facial Aesthetics from LVPEI. In 2014 she became a Diplomate of National Board in Ophthalmology (DNB) and then did a fellowship from the International Council of Ophthalmology (FICO). Dr. Anasua has to her credit numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. Having presented widely in different conferences, she is actively involved in teaching and research.

Dr. Kavya Madhuri Bejjanki
