Role of Fluorides in Dentistry

Fluorides are considered effective materials in the fight against tooth decay, which can be useful for both prevention and treatment. The easiest and most effective way to prevent tooth decay is to use it of fluoride dental products.

Fluoride helps in enamel remineralization. Fluoride is a natural anti-caries agent. It is a natural mineral that helps prevent tooth decay in children and adults by strengthening tooth enamel and being more resistant to acids and tooth decay.

As your teeth grow, fluoride also helps in reversing early signs of tooth decay. At home, you can use fluoridated toothpaste and mouthwash to act directly on the teeth. he calls it a “topical” benefit. And the more fluoridated foods and beverages you consume, the greater the topical benefit because it becomes part of your saliva and constantly coats your teeth with small amounts of fluoride , which can strengthen tooth enamel.

Some guidelines for use of fluorides:

i)Fluoridation of water is recommended by almost all dental organizations and medical professionals.

ii)Brush your teeth twice a day (morning and evening) or as directed by your dentist.

iii)For children under 3 years old: start brushing your teeth as soon as they start to appear in your mouth and use only a swab or grain of rice fluoride toothpaste.

iv)For children in between 3-6 yrs: Use not too much fluoride toothpaste at ages 3 and 3-6 years. Always watch and brush your child to make sure they are using the right amount and try to get them to do so to spit out more toothpaste.

The benefits of fluoride are many, such as

i) rebuilding weakened tooth enamel

ii) slowing the loss of tooth enamel minerals

iii) reverse the early signs of tooth decay

iv) prevent the harmful growth of bacteria in the mouth.

The most obvious sign that you need fluoride is when you begin to show the first signs of tooth decay. The first symptoms of tooth decay can be accidental toothache, sudden toothache, tooth sensitivity, pain when eating or drinking hot, cold, or sugary foods and drinks.
