Scientists discover a new way to detect early colon cancer

Early colon cancer if diagnosed early can be a boon to many people. Colonic cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, both in India and around the world. There are two techniques for recognizing it; either CT colonography and colonoscopy or immunohistochemistry.  A new joint study with four institutes in India and one in France under the direction of Dr. Sagar. Sengupta of the National Institute of Immunology (NII) has discovered a new way that could identify the disease even at stage I, the earliest stage.  The new study found that six microRNAs in colon cancer cells are upregulated and that their levels were controlled by a master regulatory protein called CDX2. The upregulation lasted until the end stage IV of colonic carcinoma. A report of the work was published in the Journal of Cell Science.  A FIT test detects colon cancer by looking for blood in your stool. Showing blood indicates a positive test, but doesn’t necessarily mean a person has colon cancer. A home FIT test kit contains instructions and a container for the stool sample. The concept behind a FIT test is the same regardless of manufacturer, although individual instructions and turnaround times may vary. Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers in the United States, but it is also one of the most preventable. For example, a colonoscopy can identify and remove cancer precursors (polyps), thereby stopping the disease. We have developed a way to prevent colon cancer and it should benefit more suitable people. Know the Symptoms. Never Ignore Colon cancer is not normally viewed as a disease diagnosed in younger people. Incidence and mortality have increased significantly in young adults ages 20 to 49.

” Publicity Policy The Cleveland Clinic is a nonprofit academic medical center, “says Dr. Liska. Abdominal pain or other symptoms of an obstruction. I’m not afraid to speak to your doctor and possibly get an early check-up” Take your health seriously, even if in your 20s you feel like nothing can go wrong “says Dr. Liska.

Colorectal cancer is not only a disease of  younger people, it also affects older people. Over the last two decades, its incidence have increased in younger adults between 20 to 49. Family history, rectal bleeding with change in bowel movement, anemia all can be symptoms of early colon cancer. Eating healthy and exercising regularly can be an added good habit in preventing colon cancer. Also stop smoking to prevent its development.
