Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a significant obstetric complication characterized by excessive bleeding following childbirth. It is a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is important to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the differences between early and late PPH, methods and therapeutic strategies in prevention, and their advantages. It also provides valuable insights into the appropriate use of Carbetocin in different types of deliveries, ultimately improving maternal healthcare practices.
This module will provide an in-depth understanding of the use of Carbetocin, the current most effective molecule in the prevention of PPH. It will cover the causes, risk factors, symptoms, signs, laboratory investigations, prevention strategies, and comparative efficacy, safety, and advantages of Carbetocin over oxytocin. Furthermore, it will discuss the types of delivery where Carbetocin is preferred and the appropriate route of administration.
Additionally, it will delve into various surgical manoeuvres including serial and selective devascularization, compression sutures, and obstetric hysterectomy, providing tips and tricks on when, how, and in what circumstances surgical interventions are necessary.The comprehensive course shall also cover challenging case-based discussions and live demonstration workshops to enhance the practical skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals in handling cases of PPH.
