Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a frequently diagnosed gastrointestinal disease. IBS typically consists of abdominal pain and altered bowel habits. The treatment of IBS differs between patients. A very important factor in management remains the patient-clinician relationship. This 3-lecture series is specially designed for general practitioners and consulting physicians to help in better understanding of the concept from the multi-faculty perspective. This lecture series also focuses on the various diagnostic tools of IBS. Each session is associated with proven clinical studies and worth knowing facts along with expert opinions and discussions to provide optimum diagnostic and management strategies that can be introduced in routine practice.
Objective of This Lecture Series:
- To discuss the comprehensive management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- To discuss the effects of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment on patients and discuss goal directed medical therapies for these patients.
- To equip physicians with various clinical studies and proven facts about the association of IBS with other gastrointestinal diseases and thereby ways to prevent such by timely interventions.
- Case based/clinical studies-based discussion highlighting latest evolving concepts in the therapy and its systematic application in respective clinical practice.
Need for This Lecture Series:
- The lecture series will help to understand the symptom-driven therapeutic interventions.
- Patients with IBS report distressing symptoms of abdominal pain and altered bowel habits. This reduces patient's quality of life. So, understanding the pathophysiology of IBS becomes a crucial part of the management.
- The diagnosis of IBS is challenging as symptoms may differ between patients and overlap with those of other disorders. This lecture series examines the current diagnostic approach in IBS and discusses new tools to improve diagnosis.
