Dr. Sasmita Mishra
Dr. Mishra is a faculty in the Department of Biology, Dorothy, and George Hennings College of Science, Mathematics, and Technology at Kean University. She specializes in Plant Physiology, plant nutrition, and Molecular Biology. She teaches various courses in Biology including Botany, Microbiology, Genetics, and Medicinal Botany in the Department of Biology. Her research focuses on the response of plants to abiotic stress, plant-nutrient relation, and the phytotherapeutic applications of plants. Dr. Mishra obtained her doctoral degree from the University of Delhi, India, and has conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Toledo, OHIO, in collaboration with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Read More In addition to teaching, her primary research includes understanding plant-nutrient relations during abiotic stress using genomics and proteomics approaches. During her post-doctoral training at the University of Toledo, she developed biomarkers for nutrient-uptake proteins to study the plant-nutrient relations during abiotic stress. From her post-doctoral research, she has generated 17 peer-reviewed articles. Expanding her research interest at Kean University, her lab is conducting studies on the roles of symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi on abiotic stress tolerance in plants, and evaluating the potential therapeutic applications of medicinal plants.
