About This Lecture Series:
This is a live interactive three lecture series specially designed for
general practitioners and consulting physicians to help in better understanding of the concept
from the multi-faculty perspective in comprehensive management of cardiometabolic diseases and
focus on supplementation like addressing the role of calcium in the prevention and improvement
of comorbid diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and thyroid disorders.
The lecture series comes with various illustrative studies and proven facts in the view of
association of calcium deficiency and risk of these metabolic disorders.
Each lecture is associated with proven clinical studies and worth knowing facts along with
expert opinions and discussions to provide optimum care that can be introduced in routine
practice.
Objective of This Series:

To discuss the comprehensive management of diabetes, hypertension and thyroid disorders to
provide treatment in the best interest of the patient.

To discuss the effects of calcium supplementation on insulin sensitivity, beta-cells
function and the pathophysiological mechanism of calcium deficiency and discuss
goal-directed medical therapies for these patients.

To equip the physicians with various clinical studies and proven facts and understand how
calcium supplementation helps in regulating blood pressure and thereby how hypertension can
be prevented by such timely interventions.

This lecture series shall also help the physicians with the current perspectives in thyroid
disorders, challenges, management and evaluation in the role of calcium management.

Case based/clinical studies-based discussions highlighting latest evolving concepts in the
therapy and its systematic application in respective clinical practice.
Meet the Faculty:
Dr. Andre Scheen
Liège University, Liège, Belgium
André Scheen is the former head of the Division of Diabetes, Nutrition, and Metabolic
Disorders at the Academic Hospital of Liège, Belgium. He is also Honorary Professor of
Medicine and Therapeutics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Liège. His
main academic interests include the pathophysiology and treatment of obesity and type 2
diabetes mellitus. He was responsible at the Academic Hospital of Liège of a phase I
clinical pharmacology unit devoted to early phase development of new drugs and he was
involved in many phase II-III clinical trials in the field of obesity, diabetes, lipid
disorders and cardiovascular disease.

academic pursuits, Professor Scheen is a member of the Belgian Commission for
Refunds
for Medicines, and of the Administrative Council and the Medical and Educational
Council
of the Belgian Diabetes Association. He is currently Vice-President of the Belgian
Royal
Academy of Medicine. He is the past-president of the French-speaking Society of
Diabetes. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the ‘Revue Médicale de Liège’,
Associate
Editor of ‘Diabetes & Metabolism’ and of “Diabetes Epidemiology & Management” and
member
of the Editorial Board of ‘Expert Opinion on Drug Metabolism and Toxicology’.
Professor Scheen is a member of several national and international learned societies
and
is recognized as author or co-author of over a 1,000 scientific publications in
national
and international journals. His main current field of interest in the

Dr. JC Mohan is an accomplished interventional cardiologist with more than 10000
coronary interventions, 3000 PTMC and a rich experience of 29 years in implanting
cardiac devices. He has held many prestigious positions throughout his career and has
been instrumental in establishing several Heart institutes in North-West Delhi. He is
the Ex-Professor of Cardiology at G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi, Ex-President of the
Indian Academy of Echocardiography, Ex-Vice-President of Cardiological Society of India
and current President of the Apex Society for CME in Cardiology. He is the first Indian
to be nominated as honorary fellow for this prestigious society and is a keen researcher
with more than 180 research papers published in various national and international
journals. His areas of interest are heart failure, valvular heart disease & muscle
mechanics.

MD, DM (Endocrinology)
Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar has done MBBS and MD (Medicine)
from Govt. Medical College Srinagar and DM (Endocrinology) from Postgraduate Institute
of Medical Education and Research, Chandigardh. He has more than hundred and fifty
original research publications in national/international medical journals to his credit.
He has received numerous awards and delivered numerous orations. He has been
editor/associate editor/ for many medical journals and is reviewer for many national and
international journals.
