Diabetes is an illness that hampers the ability of the body to respond to insulin. This contributes to irregular metabolism of carbs which leads to high blood sugar levels. According to the data collected by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), approximately 463 million adults (20-79 years) were suffering from diabetes as of 2019. With even more than 62 million diabetes-stricken Indians, India is considered the world’s capital of diabetes. It is also the leading cause of blindness and makes one more prone to heart-related diseases. Not only that, diabetes claims the lives of about 1 million people every year in the nation.

Bitter Gourd: Bitter gourd in every manner-juice, powder or raw helps in diabetes management. People with diabetes should consume 20ml of its juice in the morning or 1 tablespoon of gourd powder in lukewarm water.

Cinnamon: There are studies that prove that cinnamon can immensely help in stabilizing the blood sugar level. It can be ingested using it in salads, smoothies, and shakes or can be consumed in the same way as bitter gourd powder- mix a teaspoon of cinnamon powder with warm water and drink it

Fenugreek Seeds: Fenugreek seeds have numerous health benefits. Their fiber content and chemical composition reduces the speed of digestion and thus increasing the body’s sugar and starch absorption rate. It can be taken by mixing fenugreek seed powder teaspoon with a bottle of warm water, or the seeds can be soaked overnight to keep diabetes under check.

Amla: Amla is a fruit high in fiber and promotes insulin secretion, thus controlling the metabolic rate. It is also high in chromium, which is good for the health of the heart and even decreases bad cholesterol. Amla can be eaten raw or as homemade amla murabba, or drank in the form of amla juice.

Giloy: Giloy is packed with antioxidants which, by combating the free radicals, strengthens immunity. It has been used as a popular anti-diabetic medication, which suppresses one’s sweet cravings. It enhances beta-cell output within the pancreas, resulting in the smooth production of insulin and glucose in the blood.

Drink water in a copper vessel: For the general working of the body, the copper tank has been considered healthy. Storing water in a copper tank acts as a method of purification. It can destroy all the micro-organisms that may be bad for the body, such as molds, fungus, algae, and bacteria, found in the water. It also helps maintain the pH (acid-alkaline) equilibrium in the body.

Physical activity: Needless to say, phycial exercise can help combact almost any disease and can tremendiously in controlling and regulating diabetes. Even a 30 min walk a day can make a difference.
