Obesity Linked to Higher Risk of GERD and Related Complications

Obesity doesn’t just affect your waistline, it is also linked to a higher risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and its complications. A recent global study, involving over 2 million patients from 12 countries, found that obese individuals were 1.35 times more likely to develop GERD. The risk extended to serious issues like erosive esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus, and even esophageal cancer. This highlights the growing concern of obesity’s impact on gastrointestinal health worldwide.
