GERD Management in Real Life: What Doctors Are Actually Doing

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a widespread, chronic condition that significantly impacts quality of life. A recent survey of 6,211 patients explored how GERD is managed by general practitioners, gastroenterologists, and ENT specialists. Findings showed that symptom severity and impact on quality of life were greater among patients managed by gastroenterologists and GPs. Non-cardiac chest pain had the most detrimental effect. Among 3,025 PPI users, non-responders experienced notable quality-of-life improvements when treated with adjunctive pharmacological therapies combined with bioadhesive compounds.
