Comparing PPI and H2RA Efficacy in GERD: A Double-Blind Randomized Trial

A double-blind trial compared pantoprazole (PPI) 40 mg with ranitidine (H2RA) 300 mg in 200 GERD patients over eight weeks. Pantoprazole showed superior symptom relief (GSAS score reduction: 65.4 ± 12.3 vs. 42.7 ± 10.8; p < 0.001) and higher endoscopic healing rates (89% vs. 62%; p < 0.001). Adverse events were mild and similar between groups. Overall, PPIs demonstrated greater efficacy than H2RAs for symptom control and mucosal healing in GERD, guiding better therapeutic decisions.   References: https://www.ijprt.org/index.php/pub/article/view/566
