Adults with asthma at higher risk of obesity later
Asthmatic adults are more likely to become obese later in life, suggests the findings of a new international research by Dr. Judith Garcia-Aymerich and team from the Non-Communicable Diseases and Environment Programme at ISGlobal. The study, published in Thorax, also pointed out that asthma and obesity have several common factors, including socioeconomic, behavioural and environmental ones. The research team said that they used data of 8700 participants from 11 European countries from the European Community Respiratory Health Survey (ECRHS) to find that the risk of developing obesity was also higher among those who had asthma for a longer period of time and those who were on oral corticosteroids.
