Bronchiectasis exacerbation in COPD closely linked to CV events

Cardiovascular events (CV) are found to occur in numerous COPD patients with bronchiectasis after an exacerbation, observes a new post hoc retrospective study.  The observational study by Dr Raúl Méndez and colleagues from the Department of Pneumology at La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital and the Respiratory Infections Research Group, Spain, analysed 250 patients with bronchiectasis, and found that 29.6 percent of patients experienced a CV event. Of this, 11.6 percent had more than one CV event and 37.2 percent died where the risk for CV was observed to increase with  age, arterial hypertension and potentially severe exacerbations.
