EPA proposal to reduce asthma, lung diseases across the US
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that its new proposal titled “Good Neighbour” will address ground-level ozone, the main component of smog, that persists in the US. The proposal aims at reductions of air pollution emitted by power plants and industrial sources in twenty-six upwind states that then blow into downwind states. The agency said that this move will significantly improve air quality and public health by avoiding one thousand premature deaths and more than one million asthma attacks each year. Public health experts in the country have applauded the move and stressed on the need for further measures to curb interstate ozone pollution.
