Metabolic syndrome in TOPD similar to general population
Metabolic syndrome in tuberculosis-associated obstructive airway disease (TOPD) patients is almost the same as the general population despite higher systemic inflammatory markers in TOPD patients. According to a recent cross-sectional analytical study conducted by a team of researchers from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in TOPD was found to be 25.77 percent among study participants. The researchers stressed the importance of this finding as metabolic syndrome prevalence in TOPD has a severe impact on patients’ treatment, outcomes, and complications and highlighted the need for further research.
