OM85 treatment improves immunity in children and adults against bad lung infections, according to a recent study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. The researchers pointed out that OM85, a treatment made from a mixture of crushed bacteria and first used in Europe in the 1970s, can effectively prevent recurrent and wheezy lung infections in susceptible adults and kids. The study pointed out previous research on this domain had shown that OM85 reduces the rate of lung infections in asthmatic children with a very small proportion experiencing the side-effect of gastrointestinal upset. The new findings suggest that OM85 may provide a promising solution in the absence of vaccines against the most common respiratory viruses, such as RSV and rhinovirus in infants.
