Smartphone app in maintaining physical activity in COPD patients
Kaia app, a smartphone application that helps maintain physical activity in COPD patients following pulmonary rehabilitation, has been found significantly effective. A recent randomised control study conducted by Dr Marc Spielmanns, Faculty of Health, Department for Pulmonary Medicine, University Witten Herdecke, Germany, and colleagues, suggested that a comprehensive program by using the Kaia app following PR maintained physical activity and improved symptoms in patients with COPD at 6 months. The team also noted that among the 60 participants of the study, almost all of the patients showed improvements in COPD Assessment Test (CAT), the Chronic Respiratory Disease Questionnaire (CRQ) and the 1 min Sit-to-Stand Test (STST).
