Sir Vithaldas Thackersey College of Home Science is the First Autonomous College in the state of Maharashtra and S.N.D.T. Women’s University, Mumbai. The college has retained its Autonomous status for two decades with Academic Excellence. It has been Re-accredited by NAAC with “A” Grade and a coveted honor of College with Potential for Excellence for three phases (CPE PHASE I&II) and presently in CPE PHASE III (2015-2020) from the University Grants Commission. The college has been selected by Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, Government of Maharashtra as one of the Autonomous colleges to receive the RUSA 2 Infrastructure grant (2018-2019). Sir Vithaldas Thackersey college of Home Science (Autonomous) focuses on multidisciplinary integrated approach in curriculum planning leading to multi skill development and a broad base for professional opportunities to foster development of scientific temper and research orientation through the teaching learning process. It aims to develop entrepreneurship potential in students and inculcate social values promoting healthy environment and reaching out to the community. The college has introduced a graduate Honors (140 Credits) and Regular (120 Credits) program with choice based credit system in accordance to University Grants Commission guidelines. The college has maximized its academic autonomy to think out of the box to initiate a number of innovative programs and adopt updated ICT enabled teaching and learning methodology and collaboration with organizations of repute. The Department of Food Nutrition and Dietetics aims to foster skill sets needed to apply principles of nutrition in standard dietary care of population at large. Therapeutic nutrition is a main stay of the graduate and postgraduate programs offered by the department. There is a felt need to train the students in the specialized area of bariatric nutrition. The college has pioneered to initiate an online Certificate Course in Bariatric Nutrition as one of the core programs for students.
