Zero transmission of COVID-19 to healthcare workers while handling COVID-19 samples

With rising COVID-19 cases and massive national monitoring, health workers are at high risk of being contaminated and thereby placing their family members at higher risk as well. Each of the protective gear used by the healthcare worker is necessary right from the PPE suits, face shields, gloves, protective gear, test kits, and transport media. It is important to aim for zero transmission of COVID-19 for the healthcare workers if we want to sustain the pandemic.

Around 500 healthcare staff, including physicians, paramedics, nurses, technicians, etc., lost their lives during COVID-19 service, according to the IMA. In a country like India, where the doctor-patient ratio is already bad, losing even one doctor’s life will dramatically alter the pandemic’s outcomes. It is necessary to scrutinize the safety of the sample transportation, along with providing all the safety equipment needed by the physicians, nurses, and hospital staff, with the sample collection increasing day by day. Zero transmission of COVID-19 is not only crucial to cut down the infection rates but also save the lives of millions of healthcare workers which is constantly in danger.

A source of infection may be healthcare workers involved in the processing and transport of COVID-19 samples. When healthcare workers treat the virus, which begins with the sample being collected and transported in a viral transport medium, the most important factor that comes is. The Viral Transport Medium should be of the right quality and in particular, the use of tubes that are fully leak-proof and contamination-free as tube leakage can have a significant impact on the spread of the virus to the individuals who conduct the test. The use of the Safe Viral Transport Medium developed in compliance with USFDA and ICMR standards is important. Sub-standard quality products placed healthcare workers at risk, so using quality products for sample selection along with strict criteria is critical.
